Free workshop for faculty and graduate students!
The Social Science Databases (SSDB) are a collection of data sets that support instruction and faculty and student research throughout the California State University (CSU) system. The SSDB is an ever-expanding set of social science-related research studies useful for many disciplines, including social work, public health, business, justice studies, planning, education, and even environmental studies, in addition to the social sciences. The data sets can provide useful insights for any field of study in which we have an interest in people's attitudes about an issue.
The workshop presenters will share their expertise and experiences in the mining and use of the data found in the Social Science Databases for both research and instruction. Workshop attendees will learn how to access the databases, to locate studies on subjects of interest, to investigate the variables and survey questions that make up the study, to download the data and data descriptions, and to prepare the data for further analysis. In addition, the workshop will provide examples of the use of these data in instruction, and will introduce attendees to resources available from the CSU to assist in developing course materials.
Participation is limited so contact Kathy Naff, SFSU faculty liaison, at kcnaff@sfsu.edu for your reservation.
