4th CSU Conference on Community Based Research: Transforming Scholarship, Transforming All Our Lives

Sponsored by: CSU Center for Community Engagement, Institute for Teaching and Learning, and the Office of Research Initiatives and Partnerships and Community-Campus Partnerships for Health
Date: Thursday, March 4, 2010 - 4:00pm
Registration Deadline: March 5, 2010
Location: Berkeley, CA

In March, 2010, to reduce travel costs, as well as our carbon footprint, we are holding two Regional Community-Based Research Conferences rather than one statewide conference. We hope you will join us in either Northern or Southern California for a day of engaging workshops, panel presentations, small group discussions and inspiring speakers.

Community-Based Research (CBR) as an approach for building authentic, equitable and mutually beneficial community-campus partnerships; making research relevant; and deepening student learning, is growing in the CSU.

Join CSU faculty, staff, students, and community partners in Northern California on March 5, or Southern California on March 12, to explore how campuses and communities can equitably collaborate on research to address significant social issues in California and beyond, promote learning and development, and advance the creation and dissemination of knowledge. In one day, you will have the opportunity to engage in a series of high quality, participatory CBR workshops, dialogues and research forums.

CONFERENCE GOALS
The regional conferences will provide opportunities for you to:

  • Share community-based research you are involved or interested in, and learn about others’ research;
  • Explore opportunities for cross-community/cross-institutional/multi-disciplinary collaboration;
  • Explore how community-based research can be a powerful tool for addressing the current social, cultural, economic and political issues of our time;
  • Engage in a high-quality, engaging, energizing, learning-centered, multicultural, multi-format and innovative learning community; and
  • Continue to explore what we mean by community-based research in the CSU, and deepen our niche of supporting research that advances the system’s public purposes.

While research presentations will highlight the community-based research projects of CSU faculty, students, staff and community partners,we invite anyone experienced in or interested in community-based research to attend the conference.

For more information or to register, please visit the conference website.

Call for Proposals

Faculty, students and community partners – we want to hear about your community based research projects for the 4th CSU Conference on Community Based Research! There are three (3) different formats through which you can share what you are doing: panel presentations, interactive and hands-on workshops, and/or CBR project e-publication. Those who submit a panel presentation or interactive workshop proposal will also have the opportunity to submit a CBR project description for the e-publication.

For more information, including guidelines for submission, please visit the conference website.
